האופרה של ניקל סיטי (באנגלית: Nickel City Opera, וכן NC Opera Buffalo ו-NCO) היא להקת אופרה אמריקאית הפועלת בבאפלו, ניו יורק.[1][2] NCO נוסדה בשנת 2004 על ידי ולריאן רומינסקי(אנ')[3] שהזמין אופרות, וביים בכורות עולמיות של יצירות בולטות. .[4] NCO משתפת פעולה עם התזמורת הפילהרמונית של באפלו.[5][6]

כמו כן, היא מפיקה מגוון רחב של יצירות, החל מבארוק מהמאה ה-18 ומבל קנטו מהמאה ה-19, דרך המינימליזם של המאה ה-20 וכלה באופרות עכשוויות של המאה ה-20 והמאה ה-21.[6] האופרות האלה מוצגות בהפקות מבוימות הנעות בסגנון החל מאלה עם עיצובים מסורתיים משוכללים ועד לאחרים הכוללים עיצובים קונספטואליים מודרניים.

היסטוריה

NCO נוסדה בשנת 2004. ההפקה הראשונה שלה הייתה האופרה "הספר מסביליה" מאת רוסיני, שהועלתה ביוני 2009 בתיאטרון ריביירה. בשנה שלאחר מכן, 2010, הפיקה את ריגולטו של ורדי.[7]

ל- NCO יש כיום רפרטואר של יותר מ-30 אופרות והעלה הפקות אופרה כמו: Il trovatore, [8] La Bohème,[9] La Traviata,[10] Carmen,[11] I Pagliacci,[12] Don Pasquale,[13] [14] 'Tosca,[15] Le Nozze di Figaro,[16] The Barber of Seville,[17]

Der Schauspieldirektor,[18] Shot על ידי Persis Vehar[19] וגם The Music Shop על ידי Richard Wargo.[20]

בשנת 2017, הפקת "Der Schauspieldirektor" של מוצרט בניצוחו של מתיאס מנסי, נחגגה על ידי המבקרים בדבר הפרשנות המוזיקלית שלה תוך התחשבות בפרקטיקה של ביצוע אותנטי. בתקופת מגפת COVID-19, לא היה ביכולתה של NCO להפיק אופרה במרכז Shea's Performing Arts החל מחודש מרץ 2020.[38]

הפקה של "אאידה" של ורדי שתוכננה ל-7 - 29 באוגוסט 2021 באמפיתיאטרון ארטפארק שבפארק הלאומי ארל וו. בריידג'ס ארטפארק בוטלה עקב הגבלות על מגפת הקורונה.[39]

ביוני 2023 חזר NCO על הפקתו הראשונה של "הספר מסביליה" מאת רוסיני.[40]

מנהלי במה בינלאומיים ב-NCO כוללים את דוד גרבארקוויץ, שביים את ההפקה זוכת פרס אמי של האופרה של ניו יורק של "מאדאם בטרפליי" מאת פוצ'יני עבור מערכת השידור הציבורית (PBS) בשנת 2008 ומארק ורזאט, שזכה במנהל הבמה המצטיין לשנת 2006 על ידי מגזין "הזמרת הקלאסית ".

בטקס שנערך בדאלאס, אמר מארק א. סקורצ'ה, נשיא ומנכ"ל אופרה אמריקה, "בשם צוות העובדים וחברות אופרה אמריקה, אנא קחו את ברכותיי ותודה לכם על תרומתכם יוצאת הדופן לתחום האופרה."

הופעות בכורה עולמיות ובארצות הברית

ביוני 2016, NCO הפיק את הבכורה העולמית של SHOT! הלחנה של פרסיס והר לליברטו של גבריאלה והר, על ההתנקשות בחייו של הנשיא מקינלי, שהופק בספרו של shea's מרכז אמנויות הבמה עם מיכאל צ'ינג, מנצח ודייוויד גרבארקביץ, מנהל במה.[42][43]

התפקיד של הנשיא ויליאם מקינלי שרה ולריאן רומינסקי, תפקידה של איידה מקינלי היה בשירה מאת מריה-תרזה מג'יסאנו, עם ג'ון פאקרד בתפקיד ליאון צ'ולגוז', מיכלה קפאלו בתפקיד אמה גולדמן, פרד פורנארי בתפקיד מפקד משטרת באפלו בול, מקהלה של 40 זמרים והתזמורת הפילהרמונית של באפלו.[44]

הבמות שיקמו סצנות מהתערוכה הפאן-אמריקנית של 1901, עם הקרנות בגובה 40 רגל של סרטון מקורי של אדיסון משנת 1901 של התערוכה וצילומים היסטוריים נדירים.[45][46]

בחודש יוני 2021, שיתפה NCO פעולה עם Sotto Voce Vocal Collective להציג את הבכורה העולמית של האופרה "השנייה" מאת ג'סי דאון, שהוצגה במלואה בכנסיית האוניטריאנית אוניברסליסטית בבאפלו.[47][48]

במאים מוזיקליים /מנצחים ראשיים

מייקל צ'ינג שימש כמנהל מוזיקלי ומנצח ראשי של NCO מ-2012 עד 2017.[49] הוא הוחלף על ידי מתיאס מנאסי כמנהל מוזיקלי ומנצח ראשי של NCO מ-2017 עד 2021.[6][49] ל־NCO היו גם מנצחים אורחים מפורסמים שאינם רשומים כאן.

במאי תיאטרון

הבמאים הבולטים של הפקות האופרה של NCO כוללים במאים בינלאומיים מוכרים כגון דייוויד גראברקויצ', שביימה את ההפקה של האופרה "מאדאם באטרפליי" של פוצ'יני באופרה של העיר ניו יורק עבור PBS, שזכתה בפרס אמי בשנת 2008.[50][51]

במאי התיאטרון מארק ורזאט, שזכה בתואר "הבמאי הבמה הבולט של השנה" בשנת 2006 על ידי מגזין הזמר הקלאסי, ביים גם הפקות אופרה ב-NCO.[52][53]
