סוציולוגיה של הידע המדעי

ה"סוציולוגיה של הידע המדעי" (sociology of scientific knowledge - SSK) היא תחום קרוב לסוציולוגיה של המדע, הבוחן השפעות חברתיות על המדע. בין ההוגים העוסקים בתחום ניתן למנות את בארי ברנז, דוד בלור, גאסטון בשלר, פול פייראבנד, אליהו מ. גרשון, תומאס קון, מארטין קוש, ברונו לאטור, סוזאן ליי סטאר, אנסלם שטראוס,לוסי סוכמן, הארי קולינז, סטיבן שייפין ואחרים.

הוגים אלו (סוציולוגים,פילוסופים של המדע, הסטוריונים של המדע, אנתרופולוגים ומדעני מחשב, עוסקים במחלוקת סביב תפקידם של גורמים חברתיים בהתפתחות המדעית לעומת גורמים הגיוניים, אמפיריים ואחרים.

באופן בסיסי מסתמך התחום של SSK על ההסטוריה והסוציולוגיה של המדע, תוך התייחסות להתפתחותו של תחום מדעי וזיהוי נקודות של דו-משמעות או גמישות בפרשנות. לאחר שזיהה נקודות אלו שואף החוקר להסביר מדוע פרשנות אחת הצליחה על פני פרשנות אחרת.
