ADN-ZB / Grimm / 13.8.86 / Berlin: Ehrung An der Gedenkstätte für die an der Staatsgrenze zu Berlin (West) gefallenen Soldaten der Grenztruppen der DDR fand eine feierliche Kranzniederlegung anlässlich des 25. Jahrestages der Errichtung des antifaschistischen Schutzwalls statt. Pioniere der Reinhold-Huhn-Oberschule Berlin-Mitte legten Blumen nieder und verharrten in schweigendem Gedenken.

Addition: This East German memorial for border guards killed at the Berlin Wall, built in 1973, stood at the corner of Schützenstraße and Jerusalemer Straße in Berlin-Mitte. This was near the place where, in June 1962, border guard Reinhold Huhn was shot to death by Rudolf Müller who was assisting family members trying to escape to West Berlin. Schützenstraße was named after Huhn in 1966 and reverted back to Schützenstraße in 1991. The memorial was demolished in 1994. Müller was convicted of manslaughter in 1999 and received a suspended sentence of one year with probation. On appeal, the Federal Court of Justice of Germany (Bundesgerichtshof) convicted him of murder but upheld the sentence.
