Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy, which is summarized here.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here. You may also read our FAQ for article subjects

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Requested username:

Request reason:
Hi Hammersoft. Thank you for linking me the username policy. I wasn't familiar with the rule disallowing names that associate oneself with a project or organization, and I would like to update my username to a more generic nickname. Regarding your concerns here [1], my intention in adding these maps was to continue and update the dot maps that are currently in widespread use across the articles of large US cities (examples: [2], [3], [4]). However, these existing dot maps were put together over ten years ago and use 2010 census data. Inspired by Erica Fischer, Dustin Cable, and others, I put together these updated maps using 2020 census data. CensusDots (talk) 15:41, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators should consider discussing any unblock with the blocking administrator (see the blocking policy).

Administrator use only:

If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, please place {{subst:Unblock on hold-notification | 1=GeneralGreen}} on the administrator's talk page. Then replace this template with the following:

{{unblock-un on hold | 1=blocking administrator | 2=GeneralGreen | 3=Hi Hammersoft. Thank you for linking me the username policy. I wasn't familiar with the rule disallowing names that associate oneself with a project or organization, and I would like to update my username to a more generic nickname. Regarding your concerns here [5], my intention in adding these maps was to continue and update the dot maps that are currently in widespread use across the articles of large US cities (examples: [6], [7], [8]). However, these existing dot maps were put together over ten years ago and use 2010 census data. If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following:

{{unblock-un reviewed | 1=GeneralGreen | reason=Hi Hammersoft. Thank you for linking me the username policy. I wasn't familiar with the rule disallowing names that associate oneself with a project or organization, and I would like to update my username to a more generic nickname. Regarding your concerns here [9], my intention in adding these maps was to continue and update the dot maps that are currently in widespread use across the articles of large US cities (examples: [10], [11], [12]). However, these existing dot maps were put together over ten years ago and use 2010 census data. Inspired by Erica Fischer, Dustin Cable, and others, I put together these updated maps using 2020 census data. CensusDots (talk) 15:41, 4 March 2024 (UTC) | accept=Allowing username change to requested username. Please select an option from [[Wikipedia:Changing username]] and file a request as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. ~~~~}}[reply]

If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following, replacing {{subst:Decline reason here}} with any specific rationale. If you do not edit the text after "decline=", a default reason why the request was declined will be inserted.

I have no objection if another administrator wishes to clear the block to permit editing under the new name. As to the maps, I have serious concerns. You've uploaded more than 100 such maps to Commons. I would guess it is the intent to add such maps for every community within the United States? Such a widespread addition I think needs consensus before moving forward. I would ask that should you be unblocked and begin editing under the new username that you suspend adding these files until consensus is gained to do so. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:59, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
