This page documents the appearance of the <nowiki> tags in diffs. This includes diffs of pages that already had the tag before: there aren't so many of them, and it's a good opportunity to clean them up. The number of edits that added a nowiki tag is listed in a separate column. The reasons for the appearance of nowiki are listed in Hebrew. Sorry: I just won't have time to explain each and every one of them in English proactively, but if you have any questions, please do ask me about this. Most importantly, if I see something repeated and reproducible, I report it to Phabricator. A brief list of common reasons, which appear at the tables below can be found in the next rows. I'd love to share my experiences doing this so this could be done for other languages! (I'm writing "I" because as of January 2020 I'm the only who maintains this page ;) ). --Amir E. Aharoni
השחתה: העריכה הייתה השחתה מובהקת (קללות, ג׳יבריש וכיו״ב) או עריכת ניסוי (לחצנים וכיו״ב). הסיבה הטכנית להופעת nowiki היא אחת מהסיבות להלן, אבל זה מסווג בנפרד, כי בדרך־כלל זה דורש שחזור מהיר ולא טיפול ידני פרטני יותר. בנוסף, הדף הזה מנסה להסתכל על זה יותר מהצד של המשתמשים שכותבים את הערכים ומתקנים עריכות של אחרים.	vandalism: The edit was clearly vandalism (dirty words, gibberish, etc.) or a test edit ('''bold text''', etc.) The actual technical reason is one of those listed below, but it's usually clear in such cases that the page should be quickly reverted, and no deep thought is needed about finding the errors and fixing them. Additionally, this page is trying to look on the issue from the point of view of the users who edit the articles and correct others' edits.

התכוון לזנב: סיומת או זנב (trail) שנוסף באופן הגיוני למילה שכבר מקושרת, למשל „[[כלב]]<nowiki/>ים”. ויקיפדים רבים רגילים לכך שקישורים כאלה הופכים אוטומטית לקישור של מילה שלמה, אבל העורך החזותי עושה את זה רק עם המשתמש מקפיד להכניס את הסמן לתוך הקישור.	intended trail: A sensible link that was written with a trail, for example [[dog]]s. In source editing the whole word would be converted to a link, so it's sensible to expect the same from VE, but VE only does it if the user carefully puts the caret inside the link.
התכוון לרווח: המשתמש התכוון להקליד רווח אחרי הקישור ולא הקליד. למשל „[[כלב]]<nowiki/>טוב”. טכנית זאת אותה הבעיה כמו „התכוון לזנב”, אבל כוונת המשתמש הייתה שונה.	intended space: a user wanted to type a space after a link, but forgot it. For example: "[[Slovak]]<nowiki/>people" instead of "[[Slovak]] people". Technically this is the same as "intended trail", but the user's intent was different.

For example (a real edit translated from Hebrew): changing "he served in the [[Soviet airforce]]" to "in[[Soviet airforce|S]]<nowiki/>as a pilot [[Soviet airforce|oviet airforce]]". That is, the intention was probably good, but the software got in the way.

This may be peculiar in Hebrew, because Hebrew has some uses for both single and double quotes characters that are unheard of in other languages, but checking other languages may show that it happens there, too.
