The Palais du Trocadéro had been constructed for the 1878 World Fair by Davioud and Bourdais. The building had three parts: the monumental central rotunda served as a reception hall and concert hall which could contain about 5,000 people. The two galleries on each side ran from the rotunda to the outside of the building, and were inspired by St Peter's Piazza in Rome. In 1889 the galleries served as exhibition halls for horticultural displays. The two towers on each side of the rotunda were modelled after the Algiers Mosque, which, at the time, served as a cathedral. The Palais was eventually damaged by a fire in 1935, and no longer exists. This view is taken from the galleries around the building.
