The 100E Saloon replaced the E493A, and was built from 1953-59, a completely new car, new integral chassis and independent suspension. Available as a 4 door Prefect (vertical bar grille) and 2 door Anglia (horizontal bar grille, later mesh) Available in basic or deluxe, deluxe got a chrome grille, side mouldings, hood ornament. Also available was the Estate, basic was the Escort and upmarket the Squire. It still ran the old 1172 sidevalve, although with some modifications, now with 36hp. The 300E Thames Van was introduced in July 1954, based on the Ford Anglia / Prefect 100E saloon range. It shared its bodyshell with the Escort and Squire estates. The doors were shorter than the saloons. Initially produced only as a single model with 5 long cwt carrying capacity, the range was later expanded with the introduction of Standard and Deluxe 7 long cwt variants. 300E production ended in 1961, replaced by the Anglia 105E based Thames 307E
