A monarch butterfly on rubber rabbitbrush (Ericameria nauseosa). This late summer flowering shrub is adapted to cold and dry environments receiving 7 to 18 inches of annual precipitation at elevations ranging from 450 to 8,000 feet. As other summer flowers begin to fade, rubber rabbitbrush comes to the rescue for pollinators. It's showy yellow flowers produce pollen and nectar for many pollinators as they move southward on their migrations.
