ליאור אלמליח מגיל צעיר החל ללמוד את השירה האנדלוסית בכלל ואת שירת הבקשות בפרט מפי גדולי הפייטנים בדור הקודם ובראשם הפייטן נסים שושן. כן למד מוסיקה ונגינה על פסנתר בקונסרבטוריון ברמת גן. בגיל 13 החל לצאת במופעים אנדלוסיים ברחבי ישראל ולאחר מכן גם בחו"ל, ומאוד מבוקש גם בתחום החזנות הספרדית והמרוקאית בקהילות היהודיות בארץ וברחבי העולם. לאחר שירות צבאי במקהלת הרבנות הצבאית שם שירת כסולן בכיר הצטרף לתזמורת האנדלוסית הישראלית ובה שימש במשך מספר שנים כסולן הבית . עם התזמורת הופיע אלמליח ברחבי הארץ ובעולם כולו בקונצרטים במוסיקה אנדלוסית ואלג'יראית.

אלמליח הוציא כבר מספר דיסקים מאוד מצליחים, הן במוסיקה האנדלוסית בהרכבים שונים ועם התזמורת האנדלוסית הישראלית – צור שהחייני, יעלה יעלה, יקרה מיקר , וכן אלבום במוסיקה הישראלית, מוסיקת עולם – נשימה.

אלמליח מופיע ברחבי העולם בפסטיבלים של מוסיקת עולם ובימים אלו עובד על מספר פרוייקטים במקביל : שירת הבקשות , אלבום פלמנקו , ואלבום משותף עם היוצר מיכה שטרית, וכן אלבום ומופעים עם המוסיקאי המוערך ג'ורדי סוואל מספרד.

כן הספיק להיות שותף לפרוייקטים מיוחדים ומצליחים כגון מוסיקה לסרטים כדוגמת הסרט "בית"ר פרובנס" עם זאב רווח שזכה בפרס האוסקר הישראלי על המוסיקה בהפקתו המוסיקלית של שם טוב לוי, וכן "טהרה" בהפקתו המוסיקלית של אריק רודיך.

כיום אלמליח מופיע במופעי פלמנקו בהפקתו המוסיקלית של אמן הגיטרה חנן לוי. במופע משותף ומיוחד עם מיכה שטרית ברוח הפיוט הישן והחדש , לחנים ישנים ומקוריים לטקסטים מתקופת רבי יהודה הלוי ושלמה אבן גבירול ובהפקה עדכנית . ובמופעים אנדלוסיים בהרכב האישי "אנסמבל- אנדלוס" ועם התזמורת האנדלוסית "אנד-אל" – אנדלוסיה ישראל ,בניצוחו של דר' אבי אמזלג ובתזמורת האנדלוסית הישראלית שם עשה חיל מספר שנים ואיתה הוציא אלבומים.

כיום במסגרת הרחבת הפעילות של אומני ישראל והיוצרים השונים ליאור אלמליח הוא דמות מפתח , אשר תורמת רבות ללימוד והפצת תחום הפיוט והכנסתו לעולם היצירה הישראלית דרך שיתופי פעולה עם אומנים כדוגמת : מיכה שטרית, כנסיית השכל, דויד דאור, הרירה הטבעית, ירמי קפלן, אתי אנקרי, ערן צור, קובי עוז ועוד.. לפרטים נוספים: www.elmalich.com

Born in 1974 and raised in qiryat Shmona, Lior Elmalich was drawn to the haunting sound of Andalusian music from very early childhood. He got his first musical education from the well-known Andalusian poet Nissim Shushan, in addition to musical lessons at the Ramat Gan Conservatory. By age thirteen he had already started performing in Israel and abroad, building a reputation as one of the finest modern singers of traditional Spanish and Moroccan poems. Following his national army service as a soloist in the IDF Chorus, he joined the Israel Andalusian Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Avi Amzaleg, where he was a lead soloist for over 10 years. With the orchestra, he appeared in the US and Europe alongside the likes of Munshid Abdelfattah Bennis and the Chicago Classical Oriental Ensemble. In 2003 Lior and the orchestra recorded an anthology of Algerian and Moroccan Sh’abi pieces, entitled 'Tzur Shehechiani,’ featuring internationally acclaimed pianist Morris Almaduni.

A true visionary, Elmalich's main dream is to introduce the beauty of the piutim to as many music lovers as possible all over the world. Accordingly, his first solo album, 'Neshima' (Breath), composed by musician Eric Rudich and released in 2003, is a moving fusion of traditional Andalusian music with a variety of modern settings. He is now working on a new album with traditional and original melodies for old poems, with renowned musician Micha Sheetrit. This endeavor follows their Beit Hillel and Avi Chai Foundation-sponsored project of holding piutim performances for university students all over Israel.

Elmalich’s exceptional talent is in constant high demand, and he is involved with variety of initiatives, including establishing a new Andalusian orchestra, the “Andael”; performing with the Andalusian Ensemble; and creating his own flamenco-fusion band with guitarist and arranger Hanan Levy and virtuoso oud player Nabil Khalidi. In addition, Elmalich is currently working closely with the Ethnomusicology Department of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem on preserving old Jewish cultural musical treasures. This vital, long-term project of more than two years, soon to be published, will be the first attempt in history to record "Shirat Habakashot" – hundreds-year-old traditional poems from the Moroccan, Algerian and Ladino heritages.
