- Content, Media-specific policy, and Significance. The John and Lorena Bobitt event is a very important event in the history of United States and the image illustrates the trial. It was unprecedented because there wasn't an event before where a woman cutting off her husband's penis grabbed international headlines and spawned worldwide attention. As such, readers generally have trouble comprehending or visualizing such an event and this photograph neatly captures the impact of the sight of such an event.
