English: The Roman Ruin (originally Ruin of Carthage) is a set of follies in the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens in Vienna designed by the architect Hohenberg in 1778 and Johann Christian Wilhelm Beyer It consists of a rectangular pool enclosed by a massive arch with lateral walls, evoking the impression of an ancient edifice slowly crumbling into the ground. A figural group in the pool in front of the ruin symbolises the rivers Vltava and Elbe.
