Jean-Michel Saive

Jean-Michel Saive was born in Liège on the 17th of November 1969. Considered as the top table tennis player in Belgium, he boasts an impressive track record. The best player in Belgium since 1985, his performances in international singles tournaments (he has won 130 medals) placed him among the highest-ranking players in the world between 1994 and 1996. Having been selected 301 times for the national team, Jean-Michel Saive carried Belgium to victory in the European Super League in 1994 and 1995. He was elected Belgian Sports Personality of the Year in 1991 and 1994 and was awarded the National Trophy of Sporting Merit in 1991.

Born to table tennis playing parents, Jean-Michel Saive was predestined to become the champion that he is today. His father was the tenth ranking Belgian player and his mother won the Belgian ladies' doubles championships when she was pregnant with him. "My first title is a ladies' title", he likes to joke. Jean-Michel started to play ping-pong with his brother Philippe on the kitchen table when he was 9 years old. Bursting with ambition, Jean-Mi as he is referred to by his numerous supporters, was already dreaming of being one of the top 50 players in the world. As soon as he started competing, he outclassed his adversaries, quickly becoming provincial champion in his age category and then Belgian junior champion. At the age of 13 he was the fourth ranking Belgian player and joined the national team.

European Junior Champion in 1984, silver medal winner at the European Junior Championships in 1986 and 1987, Jean-Michel Saive gradually carved out a name for himself among the greatest table tennis players in the world. Ranked best player in Belgium without interruption since 1985, he made it to world number one twice between 1994 and 1996. In 2001, along with his club "La Villette Charleroi", he won the World Championships and the European Championship Club Cup as well as the World Pro Tour in the singles category. He holds the Belgian championship title record (14 in singles, 6 in doubles, 7 in mixed and 12 in team tournaments). Jean-Michel Saive has won a total of 130 medals (51 gold, 41 bronze and 38 silver) in international singles tournaments. He was also awarded the UNESCO international fair-play prize in 1989 and the National Trophy of Sporting Merit in 1991. Elected Sports Personality of the Year in 1991 and 1994, he was picked as the Belgian flag bearer at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. Imprimer la page

שלי לא. אין שום קשר בין האליפות של שנת 2005 ובין האליפות המתוארת במאמר, פרט למקום. במאמר ז'אן-מישל מפסיד בגמר ל"בול", בעוד שבאליפות 2005 זכה סיני.ליש 22:35, 25 אפריל 2006 (IDT)

יש שם גם תאריך מ-2006, אבל אני לא מצליח למצוא הצלבה למאמר. הבעיה היא שכל האתרים מפגרים מאוד בעדכון נתונים.ליש 22:47, 25 אפריל 2006 (IDT)
