יאן באנינג (באנגלית: Jan Banning;‏ נולד ב-4 במאי 1954, אלמלו) הוא צלם ואמן הולנדי.

ביוגרפיה

באנינג נולד בהולנד להורים מהאזור ההולנדי לשעבר בדרום-מזרח אסיה. הוא למד היסטוריה חברתית וכלכלית באוניברסיטת רדבויי ניימכן, ועובד כצלם מאז 1981. נושא מרכזי בגוף העבודות של באנינג הוא כוח המדינה, והוא יוצר סדרות על ההשלכות ארוכות הטווח של המלחמה ועולם הבירוקרטיה הממשלתית.

שורשיו האסיאתיים באים לידי ביטוי בבחירת הנושאים שלו. למשל, נשים אינדונזיות שאולצו לשרת את הצבא היפני במהלך מלחמת העולם השנייה כזונות וכונו נשות הניחומים, או עובדי כפייה לשעבר בדרום מזרח אסיה באותה תקופה תוארו בסדרה "עקבות מלחמה: ניצולי רכבת בורמה וסומטרה". חזרתם של קשישים מהולנד בחזרה למולדתם באיי מאלוקו תוארו בסדרה "פולאנג: בחזרה למאלוקו" . השכלתו האקדמית באה לידי ביטוי במחקרים היסטוריים קפדניים שמקדימים כל אחד מהפרויקטים שלו.
