ג'ובאני בולדיני (באיטלקית: Giovanni Boldini; ‏31 בדצמבר 1842 – 11 ביולי 1931) היה צייר דיוקנאות תקופה איטלקי, שחי ועבד בפריז לאורך רוב שנות הקריירה שלו. לפי מאמר משנת 1933 בטיים מגזין, נודע כ"אמן הצליפה" על שום סגנון הציור הסוחף שלו.

ביוגרפיה וקריירה

בולדיני נולד בפרארה, בן לצייר של נושאי דת, ובשנת 1862 יצא לפירנצה לשש שנים לחקור ציור ולצייר. לעיתים רחוקות השתתף בשיעורי האקדמיה לאמנויות, אבל בפירנצה פגש ציירים ריאליסטיים אחרים, שנודעו כ"Macchiaioli" והיו מבשרי האימפרסיוניזם. השפעתם ניכרת בציורי הנופים שלו, המצביעים על תגובתו הספונטנית לטבע, אם כי ציורי הדיוקן שלו הם שהביאו לו תהילה.

בולדיני עבר ללונדון, שם נחל הצלחה כצייר דיוקנאות. הוא צייר דיוקנאות של אנשי החברה הגבוהה, בהם ליידי הולנד והדוכסית מווסטמינסטר. בין השאר צייר בולדיני את דיוקן ג'וזפה ורדי ואת דיוקנה של השחקנית שרה ברנאר.

משנת 1872 חי בפריז, שם התיידד עם אדגר דגה. הוא היה לצייר הדיוקנאות הפופולרי ביותר בפריז בשלהי המאה ה-19, בעל סגנון ציור תוסס ומלא חיים, שניכרת בו השפעה מסוימת של מקיאוולי ואזכור נלהב לעבודתם של ציירים צעירים יותר, כמו ג'ון סינגר סרג'נט ופול סזאר הלו. הוא מונה למפקח על האגף האיטלקי של התערוכה העולמית של פריז בשנת 1889, ועל מינויו זה קיבל את אות לגיון הכבוד.

בשנת 1897 הציג תערוכת יחיד בניו יורק. הוא השתתף בביאנלה של ונציה בשנים 1895, 1903, 1905 ו-1912. ג'ובאני בולדיני מת בפריז ב-11 ביולי 1931.

מורשת

ג'ובאני בולדיני הוא דמות בבלט "פרנקה פלוריו, מלכת פאלרמו", שכתב המלחין האיטלקי לורנצו פררו בשנת 2007. הבלט מביא את סיפורה של ודנה פרנקה, אצילה סיציליאנית מפורסמת, שיופייה יוצא הדופן נתן השראה לו ולעוד ציירים, מוזיקאים, משוררים וקיסרים בשנות הבל אפוק.

תמונת דיוקן של המוזה הקודמת של בולדיני, מרת' דה פלוריאן, שחקנית וקורטיזנה צרפתייה, התגלתה בדירה פריזאית בסוף 2010, נסתרת מעין כל במקום שהיה נעול וחתום במשך 70 שנה. התמונה מעולם לא נרשמה, הוצגה או התפרסמה, והדירה הייתה שייכת לנכדתה של דה פלוריאן, שעברה לגור בדרום צרפת עם פרוץ מלחמת העולם השנייה ומעולם לא חזרה. פתק ובו דברי אהבה ואזכור ביוגרפי לתמונה שצוירה בשנת 1888, כשהשחקנית הייתה בת 24, נתנו גושפנקא לאמיתות הציור ולזהות הצייר. דיוקן באורך מלא של הגבירה באותה שמלה ובאותם אביזרים, אך פחות פרובוקטיבית, תלויה במוזיאון לאמנות של ניו אורלינס.

גילוי התמונה בדירה, שעמדה ריקה מאדם במשך 70 שנה, מהווה את הרקע לרומן של מישל גאבל משנת 2014, "דירה בפריז" וכן לרומן "שעות הקטיפה" של אליסון ריצ'מן משנת 2016.
